Fertility and Pregnancy Concerns Related to Weight – Obesity

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
Mary Leahy asked:

There is a growing concern in the world today as obesity takes over.

We are seeing more and more health problems due to obesity and a big concern and a critical one is Fertility and Pregnancies.

There have been reports that people who are obese may have fertility problems, one example is that men who are overweight or obese, may have a low ***** count.

Women who are overweight or obese have greater health concerns especially when they are pregnant.

Overweight women who are trying to get pregnant have even greater concerns than women who are not overweight. Once getting pregnant there is the health of the mother and the unborn child to consider as they are both at risk during the pregnancy. The following are some of the risk, they may suffer.

1. infrequent menstrual cycles leading to increase risk of infertility

2. increased or higher incident of miscarriages.

3. greater risk of high blood pressure which can further lead to heart problems for the mother or lead to fetal distress

4. greater incident of the mother developing diabetes during pregnancy

5. greater incident of having high birth weight infants

6. increase of high birth weight infants, leads to increase risk of Cesarean section.

7. increase risk of having birth defects

Another huge concern today is the health risk involved in having IVF treatments when obese.

The BBC News reported – “The British Fertility Society is recommending women with a body mass index of 36 and over should not be allowed access to fertility treatment.”

However the NHS (National Health Service) guidelines say “overweight women should be advised of potential health risk but don’t ban the treatment”.

The health risk, for obese women during fertility surgery, is the concern that when extracting the egg, due to the excess fat, this excess fat may push the ovaries up higher, therefore making it harder for the needle to reach the ovaries to extract the eggs. As well, during the surgery the needle is guided by using a scan. It may be difficult to get a clear image of the ovaries as having to scan through excess fat which impedes the scan.

Couples, who want to start a family, and are overweight or obese, or couples who have children but wish to have more, but have become overweight or obese, should look at improving their health and weight frist, before trying to conceive. To help avoid disappointment and frustration while trying to get pregnant, it is better to combat your weight and the best way is to look at a lifestyle change rather than a diet.

A lifestyle change will not only help you but your family in the future.

One change could be, understanding your body and its needs to be healthy. Understanding what foods cause you to gain weight and which ones help you to lose weight. You will also benefit from understanding portion size, which foods you need more of and which you need less, and when to feed your body. This will help you in the long term rather than a quick fix.

Be healthy, not only for yourself, but for your family. Your children will want to have healthy happy parent and enjoy a full lifetime with them.

10 Step-by-step Business Startup Guide: Step 1

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009
Dave J asked:

STEP 1: Determine My Ultimate Plan

I never take this preliminary step lightly. I always start off with thorough planning. As we always say, plan your life, and then plan your business. Once you know where to go, you can then have a pleasant journey.

I have noticed that there are many successful business people who are not happy in many ways even though they have all the money to last them for generations. On the other hand, I also found out that business people who are successful, joyful and happy are entrepreneurs who created a business that’s in perfect synchronization with what they want out of life. They do what they love, the kind of things that fit into their personality, their life purpose and their lifestyle.

Therefore, before I lunge into a new business venture, I would run though a personal checklist to ensure that I am aware of what I am doing and where I want to be ultimately.

Here is what I’ll do:

1. Review my area of importance – I would review thoroughly my current job or business, my physical being, my lifestyle, my relationship, my family, my hobby, my finance, my spiritual aspect and my emotional state. Next, I would grade each area of my life on a scale of 1-100 (1 means not important at all; 100 means utmost important; 50 means in between). When certain areas of life (at different phases of life) do not concern me much, they are usually not important to me. However, aspect of life that I want to elevate desperately or thing that bother me most of the time, are usually aspect that I perceive as utmost important.

For instance, if my life is motivated solely by relationship with my loved ones, I would rate it 100. And if my top priorities in life are making money and being happy (simultaneously), I would rate my business at 90 and my emotional state at 90. Let say currently I am obese, and that doesn’t bother my conscious, so my physical being would get somewhere around 10!

2. Perform goal setting – Then, I would review (or maybe redo) my personal life goals for the short and long term. My goals in life would be referring to the “ideal life” that I want to live in. Factor in things like family time, hobbies, charity work, and early retirement – anything that gets me really excited or motivated.

3. Identify my skills, expertise or interest – Next, I will list down my highest abilities, strengths or area of interest, that I can build on to attain “commercial value”. I would finalize what are my skills, expertise or interest that could be an asset to my business.

4. Identify what kind of business is most ideal – I would list down several kinds of businesses I want to venture into; that meet my life’s purpose, my skills, expertise or area of interest. Ultimately, I need to choose the kind of business that I can be enthusiastic about during the startup and daily management. One pointer, I must be 100% certain that the business I’ve chosen must present a “hungry market” or else I’ll be a sitting duck.

5. Discover my ideal work style – Finally I would discover how I want to run my new venture; full time or part time, mobile office or home office, one-man show or with a team of people, online or brick and mortar business.

Once I have completed the above five steps, all the above elements will get consolidated into a very brief document called “MY ULTIMATE PLAN”

It’s very important for me to have MY ULTIMATE PLAN printed out and kept in plain view. The reason for doing so… to constantly remind me of what I want, what’s important, and what to do next (especially when things get tough).

I would utilize MY ULTIMATE PLAN to provide a context for most strategic decisions I’ll make – including what niche business I choose to venture, what business model to employ, who to employ, where to operate, how much capital to raise, product pricing factor, how to automate my daily operations, home based, or a one-man operation.

Most importantly, MY ULTIMATE PLAN will position me to do what I LOVE MOST and that will always bring out the best in me as an entrepreneur – unleashing the untapped potential within me!

Research on Obesity

Sunday, June 21st, 2009
Sandy Klocinski asked:

Research on obesity shows that many adults are suffering because of their obesity

Medical professionals show that adults who are obese have a greater chance for heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Research on obesity has increased recently for obesity is a problem in the United States and in other places around the world. The percentage of children, teenagers and adults who can be classified as obese has increased recently, and the problem is very detrimental to the health of many people. Approximately 30% of non-Hispanic whites are obese while 45.0% of non-Hispanic blacks and 36.8% of Mexican Americans are obese.

Research on obesity has proven that a family group adopts the same attitudes and practices toward food, behavior and activity level. Focusing on a modification program for the whole family will hopefully increase the success rate for everyone involved.

Overweight and obesity increase the risk of developing numerous serious health problems, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes has increased with the national increase in overweight and obesity

Health and medical professions concentrate on treating obesity’s results – heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, gallstones, sleep apnea, bowel cancer, etc. It is a preventable disease through changes in diet and by becoming more physically active. Health Costs – Our children are paying dearly and at their young age are not realizing this. Type 2 Diabetes has risen from 4% new cases seen in the pre-1990’s to between 8-45% during the 1990’s.

Families and communities lie at the foundation of the solution to the problems of overweight and obesity. Family members can share their own knowledge and habits regarding a healthy diet and physical activity with their children, friends, and other community members. Families that do not eat together tend to consume more fried foods and soda and less fruits and veggies than families that share meals.

BMI is useful as a general guideline to monitor trends in the population, but by itself is not diagnostic of an individual patient’s health status. Further evaluation of a patient should be performed to determine his or her weight status and associated health risks. BMI equals a person’s weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. BMI is imperfect since it fails to distinguish fat from lean body mass.

Overweight refers to an excess of body weight compared to set standards. Overweight people face discrimination — in jobs and social situations; even the clothes they need usually cost more! Many can’t enjoy the simple things that most Americans take for granted — like, going to the movies, riding on a roller coaster, even walking up stairs or tying shoes is a major ordeal. Overweight is defined as having a BMI of 25 to 29.9 (a 5′5″ woman who weighs 150 pounds or more or a 5′11″ man who weighs 180 pounds or more). A BMI of 20 to 24.9 is considered normal weight, and a BMI under 20 is considered underweight.

Fat farms are helpful, but a lot of fat people consider these places a stigma and would rather not go there. Instead, they would prefer to have their own parents, relatives, and close friends guide them through the steps that have to be taken to lose weight

Doctors Shocking Report; Why People are Obese and Overweight!

Saturday, June 20th, 2009
Richard asked:

This special eye opening report bought to you by the well known Dr Suzanne Gudakunst!!

Everybody believes that the reason that people get fat is because they over-eat and don’t exercise. While this may have been true several decades ago, it’s something

else entirely today.  While studying to become a doctor there were a number of factors that I became aware of and a very peculiar pattern emerged which contradicted many statements that have been made regarding being overweight. Perhaps you can remember the aerobic and fitness crazes back in the early 1980’s more so than at any other time in modern history. You may also know that “nutritional science” reached an amazing level in research and discoveries from 1975 to the present. Yet, statistics from then till now have shot up first from just 5% of people in “civilized” countries (not just the United States) becoming labeled “OBESE.”

You must consider that “medicine” has increased its knowledge considerably in the past 15 years alone by over 800%.Yet, just a few years later this Obesity stat jumped from 5% to 25% (which was unheard of and frightening to the general public at large — no pun intended!) Most recently it was considered “accepted” that some 40% of people living in the United States are obese — and shockingly this stat was just recently revised with estimates suggesting between 55%-62% of Americans alone are now categorized as obese!

Yet again, “WE” are considered not just as a nation, but as a planet to be an advanced race of humanity living into the 21st century – but people are getting FATTER and FATTER! (And despite all these amazing advances!)

What Is the Reason for this?

As I doctor, this made me very curious; as well as disturbed. All this is what caused me to study more intensely than anything else the growing “Problem of Obesity” (not just in America, but worldwide).

I noticed another very “bizarre pattern” emerge that proved eventually to lead me to the True Cause: Other nations (especially in Asia and the Orient) who began taking

in American exports of red meats and dairy began seeing fatter people and increases in their citizens’ health disorders. Before a decade ago, people living in the Orient had less than 1% of the levels of heart disease, liver disorders, cancers, strokes, and even behavioral problems such as ADD and learning disabilities.

Today, those nations that accept regularly our imports show almost the same levels of these sickening illnesses and horrible diseases just like in the US. PLEASE NOTE: At present Japan REFUSES to accept these meat and dairy exports from the United States, and they STILL have less than 1% of these sicknesses and obese citizens! (Starting to get the picture?)

I then studied the ingredients to learn that almost ALL the things causing Oriental citizens to become as sick as American citizens were the so-called pesticides and preservatives that our FDA claims are to “protect us.” Yet prior to their absorption into international populations, those peoples were by far SAFER, HEALTHIER, and far LESS LIKELY to develop the PLETHORA of diseases that plague Americans, due to these chemicals.

I went on to examine people living in the US who were NOT getting sick, only to discover a clear pattern as well. These people were not eating the foods at public grocery stores — either entirely or less as often.

Further, people who once were sick and obese but who later conquered both obesity and disease were people who had “detoxified” their bodies of all this “chemical & harmful garbage” littering them — put there with the permission of good ole ‘Uncle Sammy.’ I guess this gives an entirely new meaning to Uncle Sam’s

well-known statement:   “I Want You!”

I eventually discovered the PRECISE reason why 88% of all people are FAT and getting very, very SICK:

Let me reveal the Truth

People’s bodies are creating large “fat-stores” (like the now extremely common and hideous “love handles”) around the middle tummy area, and underneath their armpits, as well as the back of their legs, thighs and buttocks as a DIRECT DEFENSE against the poisonous “build-up” accumulating because of these TOXINS!

In other words, your body is creating a “Protection Layer” (in the form of FAT!) in order to keep YOU and the TOXINS *separated!* And if you get rid of these toxins, guess what happens: WITHOUT changing, modifying or lowering 1-calorie from your diet, you suddenly find yourself dropping large “CHUNKS” of fat and weight from your body!

To Sum up My results:

1. Today at least, the TRUE CAUSE of being fat and sick has only at most 12% being due to people over-eating, genetic predispositions, and not exercising. We KNOW this for fact because lifestyles actually improved, but obesity JUMPED from about 5% to now above 60%, over the last several decades — 12 times as much!!

2. TOXINS (whose main purpose it would seem is just to make you fatter and sicker) have been DELIBERATELY & heavily laced into foods, drinks, and even in the public’s water-supply.

And we know there is a correlation here simply because we can COMPARE our population to Asian populations, and see that at the exact same times we were giving them our foods, and insisting that they live more “like us,” they too started to become very, very fat, and ruinously UNHEALTHY! AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE: At present Japan REFUSES to accept these meat and dairy exports from the United States, and they STILL have less than 1% of these sicknesses and obese citizens! (I hope this has sunk in by now!)  If YOU decide arbitrarily to simply discard, ignore, or just convince yourself that what I’ve just told you here is anything but the absolute TRUTH, and then you equally risk your own life as you will no doubt continue to get FATTER and much, much SICKER & even UNHEALTHIER!

But, I didn’t stop with my research! Instead, I worked very, very hard to develop a SOLUTION.  Already it’s worked nothing short of MIRACLES in other people’s lives.

One Midwest woman shockingly weighed more than 500lbs, was told by no less than a dozen “doctors” she was lost and that she and her family should go ahead and prepare for her death. Yet TODAY after using what’s inside my solution she weighs in the lower 140’s lbs, is very, very healthy, and is expected to live at least another 40 years!  I am so ANGRY at these other “doctors” who would rather chalk me up as a “quack” than bother to listen to the facts! — or worse: Those that know better but keep it all “hush-hush!” just to make you sick on purpose so that they can make a BUCK off you!

But please for your sake, DON’T be ’snot-nose’ fools like them! Find out more and you will get the body back that belongs to you for a better quality of life.

The Layman’s Guide to Diabetes

Friday, June 12th, 2009
anil kapur asked:

The Layman’s Guide To Diabetes

Facts about diabetes that everybody should know

What is Diabetes

Diabetes is one of the commonest but very serious health disorders found all over the world. Approximately one in every 25 person suffers from it and a big population is predisposed to suffer from it. With all the advancements and developments in modern medicine, we have failed to find a cure for it. We do not even know the exact causes of Diabetes. Diabetes today has affected whole world irrespective of peoples’ life styles. Elder or younger, rich or poor, rural or urban; all have equally suffered.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder. It is associated with a hormone called ‘insulin’ which is secreted by a gland known as ‘pancreas’ situated near the lower border of stomach. Diabetes arises either from ‘deficiency of insulin’ or from ‘inability of cells to utilize the available insulin’. It is basically the ‘lack of action’ of insulin that brings about Diabetes. This disorder affects the whole metabolism of the body. Modern sciences have failed to explain with certainty why pancreas stops the production of insulin or why body cells develop resistance to insulin.

The causes of diabetes are still not known but there are certain predisposing factors that considerably increase the chances of developing diabetes. Some predisposing factors are

Obesity

Sedentary life style with very less physical activity

Family history of diabetes

Old age

Eating habits especially when food contains excessive carbohydrates

What actually happens!

When we eat food, it is digested in digestive tract beginning from mouth. Complex food is broken down to simpler foods such as glucose, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins etc. which can be absorbed in the blood. In a normal human being, the glucose produced in this way is acted upon by a hormone called insulin which helps in taking this glucose to all body cells for their energy needs and converts the ‘left over’ glucose into glycogen. Thus, the chief role of insulin is to regulate the glucose level in the blood. Sometimes, for unknown reasons, either the Pancreas gland stops producing insulin or the body cells develop inability to utilize the available insulin thereby causing glucose level in the blood to rise which eventually results in diabetes. More than 90% of all diabetics suffer from the diabetes that is caused by inability of body cells to utilize the available insulin to regulate the glucose level.

When body cells do not receive glucose for their energy needs, they begin to starve. To supplement the energy needs, body starts disintegrating the stored fats and proteins leading to loss of weight, fatigue, weakness and several other complications.

Symptoms and their reasons explained

Common symptoms of diabetes include

Frequent and excessive urination

As I explained earlier, glucose level in the blood is very high in diabetes. This glucose circulates in blood and reaches

kidneys which filter the blood to form urine. Kidneys ordinarily never let glucose pass into the urine but when glucose level is excessive, this glucose enters the urine and during this, kidneys filter a lot of water also which results in excessive and frequent ********* in diabetes.

Excessive thirst and dry mouth

Excessive ********* in diabetes leads to shortage of water in the body. This, in turn leads to thirst and dry mouth.

Hunger

Since, the body cells do not get glucose, they begin to starve. Although the glucose is all around yet cells cannot utilize it. This is a case of ‘scarcity amidst plenty’. This starvation of body cells leads to more and more hunger.

Weight loss

When body cells cannot utilize glucose, the stored fat in the body is slowly disintegrated to compensate it. This leads to loss of weight.

Fatigue

Along with stored fat, the protein in the muscles is also disintegrated to nourish the starving cells. This results in fatigue and weakness of the body.

Blurred vision

Our eyes have a fluid inside them that helps in focusing. Due to high concentration of glucose in blood, this fluid also changes its concentration thus leading to blurring of vision and frequent changes in power of eye lenses.

Slow healing of cuts and wounds

Since the blood contains abnormal amount of glucose, it provides an ideal medium for the growth of pus forming micro-organisms. This in turn affects the healing of even small cuts and abrasions and delays the recovery.

Itchy skin and fungal infection

The blood of a diabetic is quite rich in glucose which provides favorable conditions for faster growth of micro-organisms that cause diseases. This is more visible on skin which becomes vulnerable to infections. This excessive glucose also causes itching on the skin.

Complications

There are various complications that may take place due to prolonged presence of glucose in bloodstream.

Some commonly occurring complications include

A. Diabetic Coma

B. Coronary Heart Disease

C. Cerebral Hemorrhage

D. Gangrene

These complications are a result of very complex changes that take place in the body due to excess glucose. Almost all parts of the body are affected by Diabetes and in long run, it ruins all body parts.

Hyperglycemic Coma

This is a commonly occurring complication of diabetes. But how does it happen?

In diabetics, glucose does not nourish the body cells either due to deficiency of insulin or due to inability of body cells to utilize available insulin. As a result, stored fats in the body start disintegrating and chemical compounds called ‘ketones’ are formed which make the blood ‘acidic’. Now the body tries to reduce the acidity and forms more and more urine. But this in turn reduces the fluid content of the body and further increases the acidity of the blood which eventually affects the brain and Coma sets in.

What to do!

There are some predisposing factors that may cause diabetes as explained earlier. Sedentary life style invites the disease therefore one should cultivate a life style full of physical activities and exercises. People working in the offices usually do not get any opportunity to remain physically active. Such people should try to spend some time out of their chairs and do as much physical activity as possible at their work place. Today’s little workout can ward off tomorrow’s great suffering.

Obesity is another big predisposing condition. More than 70% elder people who develop diabetes are obese. Physical exercises and a check on food intake are best things one can do to avoid adding unwanted weight.

Family history plays a role in causing diabetes. When one is aware of occurrence of diabetes in the family, one should prepare against the disease by avoiding other predisposing factors like obesity, sedentary life style, faulty eating habits etc. Remember, a prepared man has half fought the battle!

Foods may also be related to diabetes but it is not known with certainty which foods may cause diabetes or may hamper the activity of pancreas. One should be careful in selecting food. The intake of fast foods and those foods that are quite rich in carbohydrates should be minimized.

Diabetes badly affects all physiological systems of the human body. Majority of the diabetics develops severe complications that shorten the lifespan. Whether there is any history of diabetes in one’s family or not, it is always advisable to take precautions and lead a physically active life. Remember, prevention is always better than cure!

After Pregnancy Weight Loss Guide – Losing Your Mummy Tummy!

Thursday, June 4th, 2009
Faviano Torres asked:

During pregnancy, a woman can put up as much as 35 pounds, 25 if you go for the average. After childbirth, 12 to 14 pounds are automatically removed–that includes the baby’s weight, the amniotic fluid and other components that go along childbirth. Even with these pounds lessened, mothers are still left with 12 to 20 plus pounds to lose through well-planned means. Here is an after-pregnancy-weight-loss guide to help you remove the extra pounds:

Be patient

It took 9 whole months for you to put up that weight, you cannot expect to successfully shed those pounds off within a week or two. Weight loss is a slow and constant process; you need all patience to pull through it.

Start slow

It is never recommended for mothers to start dieting and exercising right after childbirth. This is not healthy and can, in fact, damage your health and body. So start slowly and mildly. Increase the frequency and intensity of workouts as well as dieting once you feel fully healed.

Choose a good diet

A good diet for pregnancy comprises of nutritious and high-density foods. Never do any harsh diets, always ensure that you get enough nutrition especially so if you are breastfeeding.

Do some post-pregnancy workouts

There are specific workouts for women who have just undergone pregnancy. In general, these exercises are mild and are performed at low intensity. These exercises are designed in such a way that they prevent any pressure to get concentrated around the belly, which is the weakest part of a woman’s body after pregnancy.

Consult a professional

There are plenty of things and activities that must be avoided right after pregnancy. To know which things are these, it is best to consult an obstetrician. Also, it is wise to seek professional help if you want to construct a well-structured weight-loss program that will not jeopardize your health.

When done right, pregnancy weight can be removed within a year. If not, you may be left with enough pounds to be considered obese for the next decade or two. It is therefore imperative to lose the post-partum weight.

Now you want to have more energy, be Healthier, look Younger, lose weight, and cleanse your body, right?
